Marsha Carter has been the Shelby County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections since 1988. She is a lifelong resident of Shelby County and started working in the Auditor’s Office the week after high school graduation in June of 1970.
Marsha has served on numerous committees—a couple of State Property Tax Reform Committees, several Mental Health Reform Committees, an Electronic Government Committee, Tax and Finance Steering Committee, various Legislative Committees, ISAC’s Commercial Property Tax Committee and currently Chair of the Auditors Website Standing Committee. She also served as a governor-appointed member of the IOWAccess Committee and served one year as the Auditors’ Legislative Liaison. Marsha served as ISACA President in 1999 and has been the Auditors’ District IV President for more than 10 years.
Marsha and her husband Derald live on their small farm about 12 minutes (or less) from the Courthouse. They have been married for 38 blissful years and have three children and five grandchildren. She enjoys reading, Sudoku and jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with family and friends, preferably near a lake.
